Calling all young and aspiring Australian composers!
Entries for the inaugural Arcadia Winds Composition Prize are now open to all Australians aged 18 to 30.
Entrants who submit an original composition for wind quintet between 6–9 minutes in length will be in the running to win a suite of exciting prizes from Australia’s leading young wind ensemble, Arcadia Winds.
The winner of the Arcadia Winds Composition Prize will receive $1,500 in prize money, along with a host of career development opportunities. Not only will they be provided flights to and from Melbourne for a workshop with Arcadia Winds on 29 October 2018, their winning work will also receive its world premiere by the Arcadia Winds at the Melbourne Recital Centre on the 30 October 2018, and be featured on Arcadia Winds’ Australian Wind Music Portal. A second prize of $500 will also be awarded.
The Arcadia Winds Composition Prize aims to support and encourage young Australian composers to write for the wind quintet, and wind instruments. Through its focus on composer training and exposure as well as a monetary prize, it aims to raise awareness of the joys of wind music, and to further develop the canon of works available for Australian wind instrumentalists. The panel for the Prize will be comprised of Australia’s leading composers and industry experts, as well as members of Arcadia Winds.
