Don’t miss this unique evening of storytelling, where music and words combine to whisk you away on an enthralling expedition through a diverse collection of tales.
Charles Perrault was the father of the French fairy tale; fellow countryman Maurice Ravel’s impressionist depiction of several of Perrault’s stories offer vivid and colourful musical expeditions through these magical, dark and grim tales. Craig Silvey’s dramatic coming of age story Jasper Jones serves as the inspiration for Australian composer Paul Dean, as he weaves this narrative through his high-octane, emotional and often bleak work, Jasper and Charlie. And tying these two disparate pieces together are Malcolm Arnold’s Three Shanties, inspired by bawdy old English songs of the sea.
